Frequently Asked Questions

This is a competitive league. Tryouts are required to participate. Not all those who attend tryouts will make the team. Team schedules will vary based on time and location. Uniforms are NOT included in the cost of registration. More information about uniforms will be sent once teams are assembled.

Is travel basketball right for my child?

Travel Basketball is for competitive and experienced players. If your child is a beginner, it is recommended they try Recreation Basketball instead.

How many players are on a Travel Basketball roster?

Roster numbers can range between 8-12 players based on interest and skill level.

How many teams will Springfield Township enter in the Inter-County Basketball Association (ICBA)?

Springfield will roster ONE team per grade level 3rd-8th (separate boys and girls teams). Additional teams may be added on a case by case grade level basis based on registration numbers and skill level.

How do I know which grade or age group my child will play in?

Your child will play at their grade level they are entering for the 2023-2024 school year.

What if my child cannot make tryouts?

Try-outs are mandatory to secure a place on the roster.

When will I know what team my child is on?

Parents and guardians will receive an email with team assignments no later than one week prior to the first meeting date.

What happens if my child doesn't make a team?

Should a player not make a team, they will be invited to play Recreation Basketball. The Rec program will begin in the late-fall / early-winter season. All players who sign up for Rec make a team, there are no cuts. You will receive a full refund in the form of a check for your registration fee (EXCLUDING the processing fee) should your child not make the team.

Can I request specific practice and game times?

No. Practice and games are assigned based on gym availability. We cannot guarantee when your child will have practices or games.  If you know your child is already committed to another activity on a specific night, maybe Travel Basketball is not the correct program to register for.  Players are expected to make Travel Basketball the priority.

My child plays in CYO and has a scheduling conflict, can I please request a specific try-out andpractice time?

No. Travel is a priority due to the competitive nature. If a player cannot make try-outs or practice, they will not be eligible to play.

Several of my players have an extra-curricular schedule conflict, can my game be rescheduled?

No. Travel is a priority. Games will not be rescheduled to accommodate extra-curricular activities.

Can my child request to play with a friend or specific coach?

No. Players will try-out for the team selected during registration. A coach will be assigned after try-outs.

Are uniforms included in the registration fee?

Uniforms are an additional fee. More information on uniforms will be sent out once teams are assembled.

What forms or documents are required for my child to play?

All incoming 3rd graders and players new to the ICBA must have a copy of a birth certificate on file. This will be collected by coaches once teams are assmebled. Additionally, the ICBA Medical Form must be completed and handed in AT TRYOUTS. This form can be downloaded here.

Do you have to be a Springfield Township Resident?

No, based on ICBA rules there are two non-resident players allowed per team.

What are the processing fees that are added on to the registration?

They are 1.99% + $0.99 per transaction for ACH (electronic check) and 3.25% + $1.50 for Credit Cards (including AMEX)
